A decent hi-fi / music system for a living room?

Hi all,
Can people recommend a good sound system / hi-fi for a living room?
Something that produces really good quality sound, doesn't look too bulky / ugly in a living room. Something subtle.
I would like to use it for general chill-out music and for house parties.
I am willing to spend £150 or so.

Hear your music loud and clear with the combined power of 20 watts. I suspect Sony's definition of loud is different to mine.0

Hope your neighbours enjoy it too!0
