Economy 7

Hiya, I know there are alot of posts about NPower here, I've browsed them all and not found the answer to my problem, so thought I'd ask.

I (foolishly in hindsite) changed from EDF to NPower in December. Since, my electric bills have risen out of proportion with the increased hourly charges, I've spent months trying to figure out what changed, when finally, I noticed that my Economy 7 appliances are turning on at 3am (I don't tend to turn them on during summer months, hence the delay in noticing).

I thought I had found the source of the problem and was going to report it tomorrow as it all made sense with a reduction in my night charges and increase in higher cost day charges. Tonight, however, I went to the meter at midnight and lo and behold, it shows I am on night charging rate... but if I turn on the water heater or storage heaters, nothing. I'm betting if I wait another hour and turn them on, they'll show they are working.

I know it shows clearly here that I have a problem, but I'm worried that given that the meter is showing the rates correctly, yet the appliances aren't reacting, that they'll blame me for the problem rather than accepting that it's at their end.

Anyone come across this before?

No, just the one time switch on the kitchen water-heater. Econ 7 heaters always just turned on at midnight, have lived here 3 years, problem only occurred since changing to N-Power.

I think that you are getting confused regarding timeswitches. Normally changing suppliers would have no effect on the cheap rate timeswitch next to your electricity meter (you may have a remote radio teleswitch). Your supplier can give you Economy 7 for seven hours anytime during the night, usually between 11:30PM and 8:30AM. If you have your own timeswitch for your kitchen water heater, you need to ensure that this switches on during the cheap seven hour period.

Nope, not confused. The flat is econ 7 inc the water heater. Since moving in many years ago, when the meter changed from rate 1 (day) to rate 2 (night), the water heater and econ 7 heaters would automatically come on. They now come on after 3am till 8am despite the meter showing it is on rate 2 from midnight. Yes, it is a remote radio teleswitch.

Thanks for your help so far though.

So you have a timeswitch in addition to the remote radio teleswitch?

Perhaps I described it incorrectly. There is a clock attached to the waterheater in the kitchen, usual basic thing I've seen in many flats. The remote teleswitch is in the hallway with the meter, no additional timeswitches attached to the meter other than the remote teleswitch.

So have you checked that this timeswitch in the kitchen is set correctly?

Basically the timeswitches are in series e.g. teleswitch which you say is switching at the correct time AND water heater timeswitch.

Yup, I've checked this. The kitchen one is currently at BST and running perfectly. They don't sync though as the E7 doesn't switch on when the meter changes over.
