    Why do you even want a new build? So you can have exactly the same house as your neighbours? Or a garden made of clay and rubble that struggles to drain and grow anything? Or lots of niggles that need sorting? Or a drop in value and difficulty selling it one day?

    Fully agree with you on this one. I also find new builds lack character and are quite bland. They have the reverse "Tardis" effect in that they look large outside but are small and dinky on the inside. And then there's the fact that developers cram as many houses in to the area as possible causing parking issues.

    Because the HTB props to the housebuilding industry mean that you can get the taxpayer to subsidise a new-build house more than an old one. Whether that makes it better value is another, much harder, question entirely.
