nPower final bill

Hi everyone

I am switching from nPower to British Gas and just received nPowers final bill - and nearly fell of my chair! It's for over £800 (both gas and electricity)!!! I pay quarterly, last bill was £400 in November. Just logging into my account and trying to figure this out, nothing makes sense, their billing system is so screwed up! There are bill reversals, debits and credits and I can't understand any of it.

Does anyone have any advice? Is this normal?!

I'm sorry but no one here has a hope in attempting to explain a bill to you if they cannot see the bill for themself.

Is there any way you could post a legible image of the entire bill please (having removed any personal info)

Otherwise I suggest you take a copy along to your CAB and ask them to attempt to explain it to you.

(That's assuming you have tried without success to ask the supplier to explain it to you)

Was your November bill based on estimated readings? When npower eventually get actual readings they have a tendancy to backtrack and reverse the previous estimated bills to then generate new estimated (old) bills.

Have you checked the final reads used against what is actually on your meter? Also were the previous reads actual or estimates?

£800 doesn't seem that bad for 4 months worth of winter usage if your bill August-November when it's warmer and lighter is £400.

Have you checked previous bills to make sure that they reflected meter readings or have you happily been just paying estimated bills.

If they've been estimated and you haven't been correcting them by sending in meter readings then the final one will be the catch-up bill.

You'll have to backtrack your previous bills to find the last one which was based on an actual reading and then do some sums to try and sort your way through what you've used and what you've paid for to check if the final one is correct.

Hopefully you'll keep a closer eye on the new company to stop it getting out of hand in the future

The cynic in me has a nasty feeling this making a complete cobblers of the bills is not just accident/incompetence, not only do you need a financial queens counsel to make nor tail of the bill, but if they keep letting it slide how many people will be forced to stay with them because they can't actually afford to leave?

My final bill was £1297 electricity alone, but don't worry they've now come up with another final final bill for £30, i have no doubt like a blackmailer or an ex trophy wife they'll be along for more loot in due course.

They join BG in the list of ''never will you see a penny of my money again as long as you or i draw breath matey.'' so best of luck with your coming change, hope its not out the frying pan and into the fire.

so you r going from n power to b.gas in my humble opinion i certainly would not .you need to try one of the smaller companies the big six are a cartel in my opinion nothing to choose between them

On pay quarterly estimated or actual shouldn't make any difference. The final bill should be final meter reading less previous meter reading whether estimated or not. Find your last bill and do the calculation yourself. This is how it has always worked with me and I've changed supplier 5-6 times.

Why there are reversals, debits and credits and rebilling only npower can explain.
