How to trace shares ?

HI everyone, I am new here so forgive me if this is the wrong area to post this type of questions in.:A

Anyway I have been asked by my Father in law to see if I can trace shares he has in a company.

I have been to the companies house website but its so confusing, i did find a record for the company with the same name, but since then there have been many mergers and takeovers.

The trouble is my Father in law has very poor circulation which affects his memory due to lack of oxygen to the brain, and this is going to get worse. When he was younger he moved around a lot as he was a farmhand. Also he didnt keep his paperwork and affairs up to date. However I have been able to get some previous addresses from him and they are correct as i have been able to get postcodes for them, I have also had to try and trace his premium bonds.

The company i am trying to find his shares for is called - Hillsdown Holdings, as far as i know they used to make agricultural feed and food processing.

Does anyone know how do I go about tracing his shares. I appreciate that he would have to contact the appropriate organisation for security and data protection !

Does anyone know how we get the ball rolling or where to start?

I have found it quite difficult so far.

HELP:huh:

Hillsdown Holdings appear to have been bought out by a private equity firm in 1999. Your father should have received a cheque for the value of his shares at that time.

Contact Hillsdown registrars (should be on the old certificate) they will know if the cheque was ever presented.
Anything posted is not given as advice but to help with a discussion.

As JDinho says, your best bet is to get in touch with the registrars, who according to Hemscott were Lloyds TSB.
  • That was the trouble he doesnt have the old share certificate, but thanks we will try and write to Lloyds TSB Registrars

Let you know how it goes
