!!!!!!......

Buyer told me their item hadn't arrived. (Newish user 5 feedbacks) It was a reasonably low value item that fits through a letter box so I didn't send it tracked. I asked them to confirm delivery address, which they did then I got this message

"Can you send it first class or with tracking or signed for I was hopeing for this to come. A long time ago as its for some one and I keep saying its comeing. And they dont believe me witch date was it sent. Kinda regards"

So I asked them to open a Not recieved case with eBay. I don't hear anything back until 3 days later I check my feedback and they have left my a negative with the words "didn't get my item".

Sigh........

I'm always suspicious when a buyer leaves a neg rather than opens a case, they are either blocked from buyer protection by ebay possibly due to previous issues or are just not bright enough to follow the very easy instructions to open a case.

Frankly once feedback has been left that is the end of it, definitely try ebay and see if they will remove the neg (they wouldn't with mine in this situation), obviously block the buyer and then think up a very good reply to feedback left- but don't leave it for a few weeks.

One other thought, don't be tempted to try and bargain with buyer- a refund for the feedback removal. If this buyer is too daft to work out how to open a case then there is no way they will be able to work out how to remove the feedback even if you do refund. Likewise, if they have lost buyer protection due to a previous account misuse then they have nothing to gain by removing feedback as leaving it will just force the next seller victim to pay up to avoid a neg themselves.

  • We have a picture which shows a screenshot of how to open a case which we attached to the message as a photo and we also detail the steps in the message when advising they open case (if they say they can't as they are using a mobile they need to view the site in classic mode on the phones browser).

    No excuses this way!

This message should be enough to get them banned from ebay if not society!

Although I liked "kinda regards" - these are like real regards, but not quite.

I responded to the FB along the lines of, why didn't you open a case, so I could process your refund, as I advised?

Don't worry I'm not going to try and bargain with his muppet, and yes, I am slightly suspicious as to if it did actually arrive or not!

Soolin, why did you advise not leaving a FB response for a few weeks?

I was referring only to follow up feedback for the feedback left for you. I prefer to exhaust all avenues with eBay before I do anything that just might prevent eBay removing the feedback- and that includes leaving follow up feedback. I also like to consider my feedback carefully, in a temper I might say something removable , careful consideration often means a more damaging but polite response can be left.

A well worded response showing on the buyers feedback left for others, can be very damaging to the buyer, so I want to make sure I use my chance carefully as a warning to other sellers.

I send everything recorded and signed for, if not, no matter what the value, the buyer can say they never received the item and ask for a refund!

Recorded hasn't been around for years. It is the old name for the 'signed for' service, do you mean you are using that?

SF doesn't update in a lot of areas, so don't bank on it being an INR defence.

Can I suggest you read the sticky postage thread , signed for (which I assume you mean) can be hit and miss and like theonlywayisup says unless it tracks online and shows delivery it won't protect you.

Also, you need to consider your profit margin and just how many scammers you think there are out there. For instance, sending just 100 packages signed for will cost you £110. Are you suggesting that you feel you would lose £110 worth of stuff for every 100 items you send?

Frankly if I thought things were that bad I'd never sell online again.
