Recommend a cheap hoover? (pref Tesco)

Our hoover packed up last week and had a call from the menders to say it would be £80 to repair as the motor had gone

Told him obviously to forget it and I'm a little peeved to say the least as I don't think we have had it much longer than 18 months to two years. (Cost just over £100)

Anyway I need to get a new one but don't really want to spend an awful lot........can anyone recommend a decent upright that I might get from Tesco? May as well get the points

I got a great hoover from tesco for £49.95 a few months back, its upright, fairly powerful and comes with a couple of attachments. I cant remember then name of it offhand, but its dark blue and the cylinder is see through without a bag so similar to a dyson in that respect - in fact i think its better than my old dyson although that was fairly worn out.

ps - have checked its made by Vax and is called bubble.

We bought an electrolux bagless upright from Tesco about a year ago for £80. About the 1/3 of the price of a Dyson and every bit as good in my opinion.

I've always said the henry is a great little vacuum cleaner, seem to go on for a long time.

  • Thanks for your replies.

Went and got one today. Ended up with a black and purple upright Tesco number for £60.

Seems to do the business so we will have to see how long this one lasts

  • I've come to the conclusion that vacuums and kettles self destruct in our house so I now buy the cheapest that oes the job (usually asda), take it back if it dies within a year then take it to the recycling thing after that.
My last vacuum, a cylinder one from Asda was about £35 and marvellous. It's still limping along a few years later with one wheel that I have to shove back on every now and then, but it still sucks like a good 'un!

  • Yeah i've found the same with kettles Jaquelyn.. (could be the Lincolnshire water?) lol

A few years ago we bought a flash kettle from Next that changed colour depending on what the water was doing..........looked very pretty and was quite expensive.

Broke after 3 months and had to return it.

Can't do without my cuppa so did a dash to Asda and bought the cheapest they had.............think it was four pound something and its still working to this day :D

Welcome to MSE by the way ......where in Lincolnshire are you?
