Still in the pipeline but on a smaller scale than original plans. Planning has been granted as far as I'm aware for supermarket and cinema.

Original developer was a Guernsey based tax dodging quango who had Sainsbury's signed as anchor tenant, seemed to die a death when they learned of approval for Tesco Lisnagelvin Major revamp (Tesco now shelved this due to their money problems).

Land now owned and maintained (grass cut twice a year, security cameras all over site) by some investment fund. Asda's plans for take over of Homebase site in existing retail park turned down due to traffic problems. Last I heard Asda now the anchor tenant for new food store at the site but arguments over how many extra retail units and what type will be allowed.

Cinema tenant also in place apparently just waiting construction, hope they hurry up as it would provide much needed recreation facilities for the area and I could walk to the cinema for a night out :)

Premier Inn was first part of redevelopment and never seems to empty, the cinema and food store jobs (probably min wage jobs) are still much needed in the city due to massive unemployment.

Housing will follow to fill in vacant smaller areas hopefully with play facilities for the area as well.
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:

So that's a huge investment which wouldn't actually produce anything.
Primary industry is what's needed. On one of my frequent runs down south last week, I noticed another big pharmaceuticals factory under construction in Waterford. Loads of excellent jobs on their way, producing high value exports.

    We're missing out.

Your right in a way but the city needs more choice in supermarkets and there is a demand for an Asda here judging by the popularity of Strabane and Coleraine.

We do need more primary manufacturing also but there is plenty of land and indeed premises for these in industrial estates in Maydown, Campsie, Pennyburn, Springtown etc… This area of land is perfect for what is is zoned for next to existing housing, retail and schools. Just need construction to start, but won't be holding my breath :o

Cant disagree about the bankrupt conmen part of it but the houses are actually first class. Never seen the quality and workmanship like this before in a development
