My mother in law agreed to an Energy Survey from a cold phone call (not a good idea, I know!). The man that came actually found her windows, insulation etc all OK, but then started to apply the hard sell by claiming her front door was not secure enough and that it could be just kicked in. He also made veiled threats that this would affect her insurance, then processed to claim that they could give a grant of £1000 toward a new door. The quoted cost was of course grossly inflated (I know a local company who would fit a door for less than the quote even with the grant applied).
Given she's in in her late seventies and lives on her own, this is clearly irresponsible selling. Fortunately shes not daft and got rid of him, but just thought I'd highlight this and see if anyone else had come across this.
I've also had to do a bit of detective work just to find out who the company were, and it appears to be Ecowarm Home based in Keighley. Anyone heard anything of this lot?
