Howdens have a variable pricing option for tradespeople where they will offer to price the kitchen at what ever mark up the fitter wants and then give the mark up to the fitter. Great if you are fitting a Howdens kitchen. I know people who regularly get £2k+ kickbacks on every kitchen. From what I remember the markup goes to whoever refers the customer to get measured up by Howdens. So even if you buy from a different Howdens fitter who is cheaper the first fitter will get the cash back.

Generally I don't rate the service much but it is probably way better than wickes or bandq.

I just bought tewkesbury range from howdens. Just the units cost me £7500. I have found a builder who is fitting it for me for £14000 including cost of the kitchen and taking a wall down and moving toilet into pantry. I didnt know kitchens were so expensive but it depends how much your builder cost to my experience.
  • dermonte - do you have any visuals of the kitchen you ordered? keen to get an idea what you get for the sort of money in that range i.e number of units, drawers etc. etc. does it include a worktop ?

Source & buy your own appliances to ensure you are getting the best deal. Same with sink & taps, shop around.

I decided what appliances I wanted and found the best prices online and was prepared to buy them all from different places to get the best price.
I didn't really believe our independent kitchen supplier when they insisted they would be cheaper but they quoted ~£200 less for each appliance. I saved well over £1000 overall compared to the best online price I'd found and saved a lot of hassle.

I also saved £150 on the taps and £30 on the sink by getting them from the kitchen supplier.

Also should add that the units themselves worked out 7k  cheaper than wickes had quoted (in the 40% off sale), about the same price as Howdens, and only about 1k more than if we bought them from diy kitchens so it's not like we were paying a huge premium on the cabinets to get cheap appliances.
