Offered a job, need some advice please :)

Hi,
My husband has been offered a job after being unemployed for a long time (caring for disabled son), he will need to register as self employed, how do tax credits work when your self employed?
When I go onto the online calculator it asks what his previous years earnings were but he has no previous earnings?
Does that mean we cant apply for tax credits?

Also he has been asked to start monday is that to short notice to let income support, housing benefit & carers allowance know?

No, just the benefits mentioned above

The claim form will ask for his current working hours.

The section on income is the only part which mentions last year. He'd fill this out with what's asked and he can provide an estimate of this year's earnings once they receive the completed form.
