Hotel cancelled booking!

Booked with hotel directly as we do every year and paid small deposit. Given booking number. All good. Recently checked the hotel website and saw prices much cheaper (6 of us). Reserved hotel through this, site stated price freeze at this price, payment by 28/4. Given confirmation booking number. Received email today from hotel site saying this booking cancelled as hotel website was misbehaving and prices shown were wrong. Logged into my account with them and booking is showing as a cancellation. Can the hotel do this or should they honour the booking as it was their mistake?

You probably need to have a look at the T&C on the hotel website (or the site you booked with) to see what they say on the subject of pricing errors. I suspect that they will however cover themselves somehow.

You don't mention which hotel but if it is a hotel under one of the large chains you might find that contacting them might result in a small goodwill gesture. The same if a non-chain hotel that you frequent regularly - in which case try the GM. If a small overseas hotel where you have never stayed before then I very much doubt you will get anywhere and fighting them to accept the lower rate might fall on deaf ears.
  • Stayed in this hotel many times! I have an email with the quoted price still showing and confirmed by the manager. Have considered contacting him again and trying to get him to meet us halfway or thereabouts. Will check the T and Cs on the hotel site. Thanks for the comments.

Certainly worth trying him/her again. Even if they can not meet the price because it was an error perhaps as you are loyal customers they might be willing to offer you something during your stay such as complimentary breakfasts, dinner or a room upgrade.

Good luck and welcome to the MSE forums.

what was the difference shown....eg originally booked at £100 per night, new price shown was £90 per night or originally booked at £100 per night new price shown as £10 per night?
e.g. would it have been realistic for you to believe that the new price was an error (due to misbehaving website!)
