RBS - Text message

Hello. I have just written to 4 companies about PPI and have a text message from RBS literally 2 days later telling me a letter is in the post detailing the outcome of their investigation.

I am guessing this turnaround suggests my claim has been unsuccessful. Is this usually as they have found my agreement showing I didn't take PPI? Seems fast!

Does anyone have experience of this?

Thank you

Could be anything really, perhaps just best to wait for the letter rather than asking folks to guess what it might say.
  • I was more interested to find out if it was RBS standard "text code" for "get lost". but I see your point!

    Or an auto payout.

So, are you saying you put in a complaint without actually knowing if you had PPI or not?

I took out a MINT loan about 10 years ago. It was all done in what seemed like seconds, it was even biked to me as I remember. I cannot honestly remember PPI as part of it at all and don't have the paperwork as once it was paid off for a few years I got rid of it. I just suspected that as it was such a fast response it must be clear on the paperwork that I hadn't taken it after all. I am quite happy to accept that I didn't I am usually quite shrewd about things like this but I know there was some very sneaky business going on and wanted to be sure.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Just as on your other thread about Lloyds, you should have done some research first.

Skipping straight to "complaint" makes you look like a chancer and wastes the time of complaint handlers who would otherwise be dealing with genuine complaints.

It's not wrong simply to have PPI, even if you did have the insurance it would need to have been mis-sold to you in order for it to be refunded.

Did you actually complain that "there was some sneaky business going on"?
  • I don't think anyone who knows me would describe me as a chancer...quite the opposite!

I will get a copy of the SAR and go from there.

    Kidding right....

No point doing that for this "complaint". Wait to see what the response is. Could be useful with Lloyds, however.

Do you have the Mint loan reference number? As RBS did not/could not find our Mint credit card without the account number?

We eventually found an old receipt showing the full number and sent it with a new DSAR. RBS located a copy of the credit agreement from 1998 and the PPI box was pre-ticked.

If you don't have the account number, try and obtain bank statements from that time, as they might show the loan direct debit details.

Another thing worth mentioning is, if you did have PPI on the loan and it was set up with a single, upfront premium, that's an automatic uphold, so you would, and ought to be, entitled to get a refund of your own money
