Ikea kitchen credit application

Hi
I'm really sorry if this is the wrong forum, but I couldn't figure out the best place to ask this.

Basically we are buying a new kitchen from ikea to help sell our house. We could buy It outright if really needed but we are planning on applying for the interest free credit option to spread the cost out. We are moving fairly soon and will be applying for a new mortgage with my partner as the principle name. As such we thought it's probably best if the kitchen application is in my name. Iv got a really good credit file ( I know credit scores arent particularly relevant but mine is currently 942 on Experian). However iv not gone back to work since having our little ones., though I can easily afford the repayments still. Will I be declined because of that or does anyone know if it goes on household income? I really don't want to apply if I'm just going to be declined obviously!

Any advice will be gratefully received, or please let me know if there's a better forum to ask in.

Have a lovely afternoon everyone

Xx

I wouldnt put a new kitchen in. I'd tart the old one up, new worktops, new floor, decorate etc. Applying for credit for a new kitchen in a house you're going to sell seems a bit silly to me.

If you can show affordability and your credit profile is what idea look for then I'd go for it but you will only know by applying, one search will not impact you.

Good luck, let us know how you get on.

  • Thanks so much for the replies! I know it sounds a bit silly but honestly the old kitchen is so dated and there are awful orange tiles everywhere that need to come off, but to get them all off the units have to come off so it's not really do-able to just tart it up, though i really wish we could! We looked at it before and it'd be such a nightmare we just scrapped the idea. Basically we'd rather not have to pay for it now so we have more cash available for moving, then would pay it off from the equity we get when selling this place ( hooe that makes sense!) Anywaŷ! Thanks John, good to know one search shouldn't impact things too much, We are going in the next few days so I shall let you know how it goes!!! Thanks again! X

If it was me buying your place, I'd rather you dropped your price by a bit and had the kitchen I wanted put in myself.

Data held against you by credit reference agencies doesn't yet include employment and salary data, and it's quite possible that when taking out the sort of finance you're talking about they won't ask about such details. They will, however, smack you up with a credit search, but again that shouldn't be much of a problem.
