Organic food delivery in London?

I was going through the motions of placing an order with Abel and Cole, but realised they do not allow you to order one of their boxes unless you make it a regular order. Does anyone know any other companies that deliver in London and offer the same kind of service?

I can't see the sense of Abel and Cole doing it that way, but I guess they have their reasoning beyond getting your money regularly.

    Hi Franco,

I ordered from Abel & Cole recently and ticked the 4 weekly box as I wanted to try other companies, after I received my order I went online and it told me when the next box was scheduled for and gave me the option to cancel it altogether.

  • Have a look at http://www.riverford.co.uk/

The predicted contents of the next week's boxes go on line on Friday morning (and they seem to email them now as well). You can see how much of each box is UK grown, and decide which box you would like each week. The quality is superb.

I get a delivery every fortnight from Riverford, and they're really good - they let you do one-off orders, you can review the box contents online, the quality of the produce is really good, and I think it's good value for the money.

  • Tesco now do a £10 mixed organic box made by Shropshire organics. Ive bought several and been really impressed with the contents. 13 different products & good quality.

  • Thanks guys. I missed the dealine for delivery tomorrow anyway - it was for my sister's B'day. Anyway, I found one called farmaround organics which also looks good.

Not sure I would like the idea of getting the Tesco's one, even if it is from Shropshire organics These independant companies need all the help they can get without the giant Tesco's stepping on their toes and ripping into profit margins.

Sorry forgot to mention I use Riverfords as mentioned above.

Another vote for riverford's here - I get the smallest box which is £7.50 for six items. The distributor phones me from time to time to check that I'm still happy with the arrangements. Mine comes on a thrusday which is just right for the weekend wheras abel and cole would only deliver on monday which wasn't convenient
I'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 2008
  • I agree Bongedone. I don't like the idea of Sainsburys and Tesco jumping on every bandwagon that come along. I think in the case of organic boxes and local produce they should be banned from selling on the basis of their size.

For quality I prefer Riverford - I have found that sometimes Abel & Cole quality isn't as good as it used to be. What I do like with Abel and Cole though is that you can exclude things you don't like. With Riverford you get what you get.
