Bosch Exxcel dishwasher draining but noisy and not washing properly

Does anyone have any experience with diy repairs of dishwashers?

Hubby has opened it up, done all the checks on the drains etc. However if he takes the side panel off to look at the pump drain and circulation pumps, they are full of water (one of them very mucky looking), and there is some sort of a reservoir below the salt store which also appears to be full of water. I'll add a pic if I can.

Do you mean the pumps are sitting in water? If so then there is obviously a leak somewhere or it's overfilling. Can you run it without the side on & have a look? You may have to get rid of that water first but remember to unplug it before sticking any fingers in there.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

Have you run an empty hot cleaning wash recently.
Have you had the filter out for a clean.

Chances are that, like our dishwasher (also a Bosch Excel) the drain out point is at the bottom of the machine but the connection to the drainpipe under the sink is a foot or two higher - so no way can the machine completely empty, you will always have the contents of the outlet pipe draining back into the machine at the end of a wash. We use Finish Dishwasher Cleaner on the hottest (auto intense) cycle (nothing else in the dishwasher) every couple of months to keep things as clean as poss, but even that does not clear all the muck from where the outlet hose connects to the drain! However, it does keep the inside of the machine clean and smelling sweet.
