When will it be Our Turn for an Energy Grant?

Wouldn't it be a nice idea to reward people who are actually working and paying taxes who earn more than £16,000 per year. Every Grant seems to reward people for staying at home (I'm not knocking pensioners or people with disabilities that prevent them from working, I don't think that a single parent with a child or children of school is a valid reason for not going to work). I and all my working friends would love the chance to have Solar Panels, Loft and Cavity Wall Insulation and a new boiler free of charge or at least at a vastly reduced cost. Our boiler is 25 years old and I can't afford 2 1/2 TO 3 Grand to replace because I'm trying to keep up with the cost of running the thing! Maybe if the Grant Schemes rewarded those who work full time (as I said above I'm not knocking those who can't, I'm knocking those who won't). The way the current schemes works make it very tempting to 'fall out of work' grab all the incentives and when my house is all cosy and warm go get another job.

I take it your referring to home warm discount? Which you get £140 roughly towards electric not gas. There is no energy grants for GAS to keep people cosy as you put it. If you don't like the way system works. Create a petition and see if you get 10k or 100k signatures and maybe the government will respond....

Around 2001-ish we did have cavity wall insulation at a reduced cost. This was available to all. My parents had it done under a similar scheme in the 1980s. Again, they weren't on any qualifying benefits to receive this. I believe at the same time reduced loft insulation was available to us, but we didn't take it up because we have boarded the loft. From time to time these schemes do run. They are unlikely to run in the current economic market though.

I got free loft insulation and cavity wall insulation last year - and I work and earn a good income. So did all my neighbours. We just signed up for it on line, and it was advertised on MSE! There were also leaflets through our doors later on but we already knew about it.

I think that's a great idea, hopefully your old job can be picked up by someone unemployed :)

Since we bought the family home with our hearts, not having it vetted for financial propriety, our Listed, stone walled, slate roofed home is as warm as we can get it (we added another layer when we re-roofed & that took Planning permission & Buildings permission as it *still* wasn't going to be right up to current code).

All cavities in the walls are vents knocked through, & we seal them back up again to discourage the fieldmice when they become redundant through better technology.

Next we replace the windows, we may try for tripleglazing, but it'll still have to maintain the original "look & feel" - happily we're on first name terms with most of the Planning team.

When looking for my retirement bungalow I shall be a sight more picky.

With my luck the grants to the elderly will have been struck off as the baby boomers have died off & the politicians & their handouts will be targeted at teenagers...
