Lloyds Bank Charges

Hi, I have received 6 years worth of statements today from Lloyds. Luckily they have given me a statement showing all charges as opposed to me having to go through every statement!

Is it only the charges I have been given for a) missing a direct debit & b) going above my agreed OD limit I can attempt to claim back? I pay a monthly fee for my account and have an agreed £2800 OD which I pay monthly interest on.

You do not have to list or request specific amounts be refunded to you. What happens is that you write to the Bank and convince them that you are in current financial hardship.

If the Bank agree that you are in their definition of current hardship (basically in a cycle of charges meaning that you are constantly in debt which itself leads to more charges) then they MIGHT agree to refund SOME charges, typically those incurred in the last six-twelve months.

However, the Bank don't have to refund anything and may instead, for example, choose to suspend interest on future charges for a period or insist on debt management. The Banks won their court case about bank charges in 2009 and since then any refunds have been a goodwill gesture.

Historical charges are not refunded, so getting them to list the last six years is rather redundant.

Remember that you have to be in current financial hardship, so make sure you don't have subscription TV or eat out at restaurants etc. Paying for such luxury items will mean that you are not in financial hardship.
