Fired Builders

Hi all,
I just fired my two builders after months of misery and delays. I won’t get into details.
The thing is that the builders purchased several tools ( blow torch, trestle, tape measurers, spirit levels etc)and sneaked them into the materials invoices. We were planning to deduct the value of these tools when we were going to pay them the last day of work but now that they have been fired it is a bit more tricky. They left several tools in my garage and was considering hold them as ransom until they pay me the money that they own me.
Anyone had a similar experience?

You've fired them have you?
Yesterday they'd done one having taken your money and not done the work.Dodgysailor wrote: »Hi
I contracted two build to make an extension and fit a new kitchen in. That was back in January.
They have been delaying deadlines over and over again and they have never seem to be taking the job seriously and had other jobs on the side which means that many days they did not turn up.
Last week I told them that the final deadline was going to be this Friday and this deadline would be final. They have not turn up yet and I doubt they will.
The have left almost every possible job unfinished and I am fuming as I write this. We still owe them £1000 but it is going to cost me more to bring new builders to finish everything.
I would like to see what are my options here. I think a visit to trade standards would not be unappropriated. Any one had a similar experience?0 -
