Sainsbury's ending Brand Match - will anyone notice?

On a side note about bread. I like Allison wholemeal bread.
The other supermarkets and Iceland, hell even Waitrose do it for £1.
Sainsbury's price £1.50! Why?
Same with the Warburtons wholemeal - £1.45 in Sainsburys and £1 everywhere else. Even my local Jet garage does it cheaper than Sainsburys!
Hardly encourages a healthy lifestyle, does it?
Having said that, I do like Sainsburys but never benefitted much from Brand Match as tend to either top-up shop in store, so rarely over 10 items, or shop online where I target the offers anyway.0 -
Same with Kingsmill - the others charge 75p. Iceland also charge £1 (same as Sainsbury's) but often have a 2 for £1.50 deal.
Thing is £1 is probably Sainsbury's idea of a new regular price, since I remember seeing it being £1.25.
Sainsbury's and bread seems to be a bad idea across the board.0 -
I had £3.80 in Brand match last month, so, yes, I'd miss it, especially as we were buying items that we can't get at Aldi.
I don't have the option of shopping in person at Waitrose as my city isn't on their radar - there's a total of 6 in Wales, the nearest is 23 miles away.I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
I received a few surveys about Brand Match.
Every time I told them to focus on lowering prices and to end the scheme.
It's good to see they've finally listened. In terms of prices remaining the same but products getting smaller blame the manufacturers not the supermarkets.
When it comes to the coupons printed at the end of the shopping you should take a look at Sainsbury's My Coupons (the Nectar app sometimes has the same offers pre-loaded there).
You can add up to 5 items (from memory). When you've done your shop they'll email you to say to say the points have been credited to your account. It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0 -
I had an email this morning telling me brand match was ending.
They told me that
'We believe in clear, simple pricing and over the past 18 months we've been lowering regular prices on thousands of products, removing price promotions like fractions and percentages and reducing the number of multibuys.'
and
'By ending Brand Match, we can invest more in what you tell us matters.
We'll put the money we used to spend on Brand Match towards lower regular prices on our products. And we'll continue to monitor our prices on brands to make sure we stay competitive.'
I'm very sceptical that the ending of brand match, multi buy offers and other offers will result in in lower regular prices
For example the orange juice I normally buy used to be £1 a carton. It was ALWAYS on offer at £2.50 for 3. It's now 95p per carton, but offer has gone, so that'll be £2.85 for the 3, not £2.50
My husband likes Twix fingers. The normal price is £1.60 for 9, or £2.80 for 16. But they were nearly always on offer. I can't remember what the offer price was for the 16, but the offer price for 9 was always £1. The offers on Twixes have disappeared in the last couple of months.... but the normal price of Twixes haven't been reduced.
I must be the only person.... but I liked the offers. Offers run for 3 weeks, so once I noticed that something I use was on offer, I'd fill my boots up for the next three weeks, and never need to buy at the normal price.
I'll still shop at Sainsbury's as it's the most convenient place - I'm not worried about brand match going, but I'll miss the offers
PS - I use the My Coupons site - I get vouchers for things I use, so it's helpfulEarly retired - 18th December 2014
If your dreams don't scare you, they're not big enough0 -
I have a delivery pass set up with Sainsbury's as I rarely have time to go and do a "big" shop, I use my local Co-op for bits and when I do have time I use Asda, Morros and Tesco for offers and coupon shopping!!!
I use Mysupermarket a lot to make sure I'm getting the best value and I am defo an offers shopper, and will meal plan around what's on offer etc.
I won't miss the brand match as I buy a lot of Sainsbury's own brand stuff, which I actually find is on par with the other supermarkets own brand on price (except Aldi and Lidl, but there's a reason for that! But they don't deliver......yet?!)
And I totally disagree with anyone who says that to eat healthy costs a lot of money, it doesn't. It just takes a bit more time and preparation to eat healthy at a lower cost IMO.
I use the My coupons site to collect Nectar points and tend to save them up for Argos on birthday and Christmas gifts for the children. You can collect Nectar in lots of places so they do add up.0
