Sainsbury's is ending its Brand Match scheme, according to an email it has sent out to customers today.

Will anyone notice? Will they care?

Perhaps more to the point, will the company be offering counselling to those who injured themselves laughing at the headline:

"We're ending Brand Match to bring you lower prices."

Of course you are, Sainsbury's....

I wish they'd stop churning out masses of paper at the checkout most of which are pointless. The dates are so short on most of the 'offers' that they just end up in the bin.

I can't say I'm going to notice. I shop at Sainsbury's quite a lot and I don't think that I've ever got more than a few pence in brand match. Problem is, one of the reasons I shop at Sainsbury's is because I like their own-brand stuff, so I rarely buy enough brand stuff to get anything from the brand match offer. I also think that offers when you can't really work out what exactly you're saving money on are a bit pointless (from my perspective at least, I suppose it benefits the supermarkets in that you can't go and buy loads of whatever's saved you money).

I only got about £21 out of Brand Match and that was mainly on 2 shops.

As for their comment about lowering prices that is total BS!

Said the same thing when they lowered the Nectar points. Have not noticed any good price reductions.

Considering Sainsburys prices are on compare with Waitrose, what price reductions are we going to get.?

Just as bad as their slogan, ' Live Well for Less'. I don't know if they mean the prices or the 'less' food you can buy at their inflated prices.

Suppose they had to find the money to pay for Argos, as always it's us.

But some of their multibuys they got rid of were cheaper than the new individual prices.

Muller Lights were 70p each or 6 for £3 (50p each). Now they are 55p each. I don't understand why the extra 5p. Understand if they are now 50p or less. Packs of their kids sweets, such as cola bottles, strawberry laces were 40p each or three for £1. Got rid of the multibuy, but at the moment, 30p each.

Always seemed to be a random number generator anyway.

Since they took the other retailers out of the Brand Match (part 1 of cutting their own costs) we've had far fewer coupons. The only thing we'll notice will be when the lower regular prices don't materialise, again.

I suspect this is instead of them putting up their prices quite as much as they were going to to pay for the Living Wage.

    100% agree with you.

The only truth supermarkets give you is the price is going up or the product size is shrinking but the price is not.

Have you heard of this not much publicised website coupons.Sainsburys.co.uk? You register your Nectar card. Then before you go to Sainsburys, go on the site, select up to five from a list of around 40, based on your shopping list. Then for example, you have ham on your list and there is a pack of 7 honey roasted ham on the list of coupons, select that one. Then put 7 honey roasted on your shopping list. If you have a triple point physical coupon and there is an electric one for triple points, you get six times points. The points from mycoupons are credited 2-3 days after the shop.

My friend who spends £40-50 a week here, has no Asda, Aldi or Lidl for 8 miles has gained 13000 extra points - £65 from this site by buying mundane things and not buying things just for points 98% of the time. The other 2% is from examples like the ham, which was needed but a flavour was listed on the site
Considering Sainsburys prices are on compare with Waitrose,
Two of my friends work for Sainsburys and this is untrue. They can't afford Waitrose prices and they are more expensive than Sainsburys. One of Sainsburys that one of them works for, is on the same road as Waitrose, about 20 shops between them. Which one is the busiest? Sainsburys.

Have to say that I've earned quite a few extra points using their coupons site :) Never got much from brand match though.

So Sainsbury's is cheaper than Waitrose? Possibly it is, but when you compare it with Tesco, Asda or Morrisons (and let's not mention Aldi or Lidl!) it is expensive, for all its tiresome instore announcements..

I walk around Sainsbury's amazed at what they have achieved. Here is a shop that has somehow managed to pull off a considerable feat of marketing. It sells much the same quality products as Tesco but at noticeably higher prices. Yet somehow it manages to make its customers feel they are getting a more up-market experience.

In some ways, I can appreciate that, because the general 'feel' of a Sainsbury's store really is better than the garish, brash, down market clean-yet-somehow-feels-grubby Tesco.

But money saving? 'Live well for less' Not on your life!
