Hi Guys, I use Chrome all the time, but the Shockwave plugin is driving me crackers lately.
It keeps trying, unsuccesfully to load, stopping me doing anything on my laptop, mainly reading, and e-mailing in the morning,IE, now and
every day at this time.
Can I switch it off permanently? or is it needed?
I keep saying, don't instal, but it still keeps trying, keeps crashing, reloading, etc.
I don't instal Adobe Flash anymore, don't see the point.

Thanks Gillor, doesn't seem much I can do, as I have the latest version, and updated.
When I go into settings I don't have any flash plugins or extensions.
No extentions ticked, so presume shockwave is inbuilt, but it keeps saying plugin crashing, asyour article says.
There's nothing in settingsabout shockwave, or flash of any description..It usually occurs first thing in the morning, after about 5 attempts, up to half an hour, at trying to reload, it either gives up, and machine ok from then on.?
That's Pc's , probably use another browser in the morning to read paper: could be daily mails fault.:rotfl:
    grin and bear it.

Personally, I'd uninstall Shockwave. I haven't heard of anyone using it in almost ten years. And I haven't come across a website that uses it in almost as long.

You may still need Flash, though -- a lot of online videos (in particular) still use Flash.

my original question is, how do I uninstal it? it's nowhere to be found in settings?
I don't watch videos or films.don't require it.
I don't think it is on my machine, but the trouble is through it trying to be put on whilst I'm reading daily mail etc.to allow all the ad's etc?
after a while, it gives up, and pc is ok.?

You should be able to uninstall it as you would most other software: via the Control Panel.

If you're getting weird prompts to install add-ons/plugins while browsing, it may be that your browser has picked up some malware. If so, it might be an idea to run a scan with MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware and adwCleaner:

thanks esuhl, done all them, nothing there. I run Mb daily etc.
    it'sjust been doing it now,
it's trying to load shockwave, while I read Dm, so it must be Dm related.
It's not on my machine, not in Cp, nowhere.
just have to grin and bare it, it gives up in the end, but it's a pain for a while.:)
