Fault code and Vauxhall zafira

Car has been a bit " flat" driving but only intermittently.
Dh has replaced egr valve now the engine shaped light ( engine management light ) has come on.
Code showin Ecn 04005a from pedal test.

I have checked on line and it indicates exhaust gas recirculating valve but nothing specific.

Any ideas please ?

    Check the egr valve?

    Was it a new one?
Is it fitted & plugged in correctly?
    Is it stuck?

Some people "fix" them by fitting a blanking off plate, this puts the EML on.

Not sure with vauxhalls, but the ecu usually tickles the egr at idle and looks for an rpm change, if there isn't one, the egr is not working and it sets the EML.

However, it shouldn't go into limp mode with an egr fault.

If you didn't clear the fault code when the EGR was changed then it will remember the fault code forever, the EML goes off after a few starts & stops if there is no current fault.

I thought the car would remember the fault. Haven't checked it yet by doing the peddle test.

Do I I take it then that there is no current fault with the egr valve since the light has gone out?

I've been reading the forums and theses valves seem to cause quite a few problems, as they seem to cake up and they are nit so easy to reach and maintain. Mind you I'm not a mechanic , so may have taken this all the wrong way!!!
