Planning our first holiday...

hi,
Planning our first holiday abroad,DH wants to go to Disneyworld. We have 2 DDs who will be almost 13 and almost 10 when we go next year.
As it's our first holiday and it will be a once in a lifetime thing we don't want to get it wrong so will be going through a travel agent.
We are thinking of a villa/hotel or something that isn't Disney related. Would we be able to get this through the travel agent? Is 2 weeks adequate time?
Roughly how much would it all cost?
We are hoping for last 2 weeks in July.

I would start here:

It's worth looking at The Dibb, a great website with info and forums about everything WDW Florida .....and other stuff.0

Not sure if I'm allowed this comment (pls delete if I'm being bad!) however there is a fab FB page called Disney & Orlando for Brits, has many money & time saving suggestions on there!0

Thanks for your replies. Will have a browse through the thread.
Such a lot to go through and think about.0 -
Good advice so far. Some things to think about if you haven't already:
Do you just want to visit the Disney theme parks or some of the other ones as well?
Do you want to see more of the USA than the theme parks? Anything specific?
Do you want to rent a car?"Such an enormous country, you realize when you cross it" - Jack Kerouac0 -
Disneyland is a place like no other so you will have a magical time whatever you choose.
When I went I opted to book through an agent: I used Thomson which included a hotel, flight, car hire and tickets for Universal Studios and Disney. We were based on International Drive which is a perfect location if you want to see and do more than just Disney.
We paid £1340 for all of the above for 2 weeks which was more than enough time. I imagine you can secure all of the above cheaper than what Thomson offer (if they still offer this all-in-one package), but it saved a lot of hassle.0 -

No need at all to go through a travel agent, you will just get screwed.
Book your return flights using this: https://www.skyscanner.net
Hotels through here: Booking.com
Car through here: http://www.skyscanner.net
Hotels start at around £20pn, villas about £350 per week in summer. Watch out for cleaning fees and resort fees etc.
All in, I'd say £2,000 would be a good point.0 -

Sorry to be a pedantic pain, but...
Disneyland is in Anaheim which is a suburb/satellite city of Los Angeles, California.
Walt Disney World is in the Orlando area of Florida.
Personally, I'd prefer the reassurance of NOT involving a travel agent. They charge extra and make mistakes. Booking yourself involves doing some research but provided you've got the time that's all part of the holiday."Such an enormous country, you realize when you cross it" - Jack Kerouac0 -
Thanks all for your help. Such a huge expense and loads of research to be done I think. Hopefully will get it all sorted. Will hold off awhile before booking anywhere as I have heard about the free dining being released 21st April.
Need to sort out getting passports first so will do that this month.
Do we need passports back before we book anywhere?0
