Scattered finance history & PPI

Realise that this PPI mularkey started ages ago, and because of my public service job and other insurance, convinced myself that I wouldn't have taken out PPI since 1996 when I got my current job. Other colleagues have told me of old loan success stories, so a) how far back can you realistically go, and b) I have no idea now just who i may have had 'protection' with for the various loans I had in the 90's - how do I go about finding that out so I know who to write to?

a) as far back as your records or memory allow (and the provider having records too in case you dont.
b) You contact each loan provider and ask them. you dont need to know the insurer. Just the lender.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
