    Thank you so much for all your replies, i've found them really helpful and a couple of people have pointed me in the direction of exactly what i'm looking for.

    Searching "genuine" for these things on eBay etc always brings up 284559 HK/China sellers selling the cheap ones!

    Plenty of UK sellers sell the cheap rubbish ones too. Hence asking for direct recommendations because good ones so hard to find.

    They'll last pretty much indefinitely so long as you aren't ham fisted. I've never yet had any micro usb charging cable go wrong. My granddaughter does go through Apple cables at a rate of knots. The one my wife got with her iPad 1 is still working just fine.

    I always use Anker braided cables. I've got a few now and they have held up very well.
