Self tanning moisturisers

I think Quizzical Squirrel you may be confusing it with something else, fake tan is only a skin dye I believe. I will further look into it though and good to know if it is right.
ANYHOW, I am the queen of tanning. I don't do it too much, but I do like it to look totally natural and streak free. The one I use, and I have used all the top names also, is St Moriz. It goes on like a dream and is extremely natural. It lasts up to a week and fades evenly. I don't even moisturise or exfoliate and it never goes uneven. I use the moose and a tanning mit to apply. Oh yes, and you don't get that yukky biscuit smell. Here is a link to the product - I do not sell this stuff, so you can read the reviews. I buy it in Priimark for £2.99 https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1/280-5912431-3211168?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=st+moriz0 -
I like St Moriz fake tan. It's really cheap but works well for me at least. Some people have asked me if I've just come back from holiday when they've seen me with the tan on.No Buying Unnecessary Toiletries 2019 Total UU since 2016 - 396 | Total February UU - 10

I am lamenting the demise of Clinique's self tan sunscreen. I think it was SPF15. Self-tan products don't have sun screen in them any more, as far as I know.
I can't recommend this because I've only just ordered it but I have high hopes of it.

But you should be diligent about wearing sunblock for 24 hours after applying fake tan if free-radical damage is a concern for you. This is not in dispute.
That was what I meant to emphasize.
I'm not sure whether that's an apology or not but I wasn't intending to be confrontational. I just don't think you should make claims like that (whether on the internet or to a friend IRL) without being able to substantiate is.0 -
How do you do your back? Doesn't it all just wash off next days shower? Asking all the questions because I'm so very white, never tanned in my life despite lots of travel and time spent in hotter climates, always burn and back to white. All self tans have looked fake and always have some kind of line due to very pale skin.
I use a 3.5 inch paint roller bought form the pound shop, I transfer the spray tan solution into a spray bottle and use this to apply with the mitt and the roller, Ive been doing it for ages , a whole body takes me about 5minutes, no streaks or patches. I use a pro product that has a colour guide so when I shower the guide comes off but not the colour, its all in the quality of the product. If you are very pale I would start with a low strength maybe a 7 or similar, you can apply any strength sunscreen over the tan once the guide hs been washed off except for P20 which turns you green :rotfl:0 -

It's actually my legs that are pale and pasty, more so than my face
But if it provides a bit of colour as well as protection, why not.0 -
Last year i bought the st tropez shower sef tanner and really liked it. I saw rimmel have brought out a cheaper version. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0

I use Santa Monica tanning wipes from Home Bargains, they're not much more than £1. I did use the cream but it stinks, as do the wipes but not so bad. I'd put it on before bed then shower the next morning, you don't have to go around stinking then. I usually start topping up my real tan with these about a week before I go on holiday. Although I'm not pale skinned, but it makes the aged, chubby legs look a bit better.0

Regarding the Maillard reaction QS is correct that this is how fake tan works, but it is just the DHA acting on amino acids in dead skin cells see below

It is just funny when the Maillard reaction is referred to in this context as it is usually discussed in food science about browning meat. But I guess that is what we are trying to do with fake tan
Anyway I have 5 bottle of Dove self tan moisturizer in light and for the life of me do not know why I buy it as I come out streaky.
I get on better with garnier spray tan in light, or using the st. Tropez for face on my legs.
I think the think to be careful of is sometimes if you have colour due to fake tan you might be a bit less diligent on sunscreen application, when the fake colour gives little to no protection0 -
