Transferring No Claims Discount

I lost my no claims discount on the car late last year due to an accident. I have a bike with 4 years no claims bonus on the policy. Does anybody know which insurance companies would allow me to use the bike no claims on a car policy if I got rid of the bike? I know this has been asked before but I can't see anything newer than 2013 on the subject.

Thanks for your help

  • You will not be able to 'transfer' NCD. Some insurers will give you an introductory discount equivalent to or mirror your bike no claims, however.
  • Oh okay, I didn't know that was an option. Do you have any idea which companies will offer this? Also, does this mean I will be able to keep hold of the bike with the no claims on the policy if it's being mirrored as an 'introductory offer' on a car policy?

A lot of them will. I had a letter through the door earlier form Carole Nash, offering car insurance for bikers. They will doubtless take bike NCD into account. If you get a mirror, it is just that - you can keep the bike with its NCD and have the car as well.

if you have lost your NO CLAIMS bonus on your car , you cannot say you have had NO CLAIMS when getting bike insurance , because you have had a claim ,

NCB on a car and NCB on a bike (different companies) are linked

But your NCD will not be lost on your bike policy. OP didn't say he'd not declared the claim to his bike insurer. Your records are linked but the accrual of NCD is on a per-policy basis, loss on one policy != loss on all policies.

a: policy state you inform immediately upon a accident/claim by the driver on ANY motor policy

    b: upon renewal

I had a claim (damaged bike) last December , my car insurance are now kicking off , as to why I did not inform them that the licence holder had made claim on "a" policy, and not inform THEM immediately
