Upgrading Halifax Current Account

I currently have a Halifax cardcash account, due to past issues with debts and due to this, a rubbish credit score.
My defaults/late payments and all other adverse data have now disappeared from my credit files (I have checked all 3), my credit score (yes, I know the number is meaningless) is all good and so I ideally want to upgrade to a better current account.
I have tried this via my online banking and it says that all they can offer me is a basic account. I might as well keep my cardcash one!
Is this because they don't offer the cardcash any more and the basic current account is the new equivalent? If so, would I be better trying to open a 'normal' current account rather than trying to convert the one I already have?

Your "adverse data" disappeared from the public domain only. Halifax can an will store for much longer.
IMO your chances or getting a better account with any unrelated bank are higher.0 -
The basic account is a current account, with a visa debit card.
Run it well for 6 months and you may then get upgraded to a Reward A/C where they pay you £5 a month

The cardcash account is also a current account with a visa debit card and I have had this account for 15 years, always run well. I wanted a contactless card mainly
I'll probably just keep the one I've got, as I said, it does everything I need except contactless!!

As mentioned before try another bank outside Lloyds Group.
TSB left Lloyds and their Classic Plus ac gives 5% back on a contactless card upto the first £100 contactless or ApplePay:)

Check the internal score at Halifax, they will tell you if you qualify for a upgrade, if not keep asking as the information changes monthly.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Banking & Borrowing, and Reduce Debt & Boost Income boards. From what Lloyds told me last year their Internal "score" usually refreshes on/around the 14th of each month. It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0
