Lease car advice

Hi, i returned my company lease car just before the vehicle was a year old. This carried a 2k early termination fee if they were unable to get someone else to take on the lease. Today I have received the invoice for early termination fee, however the car was returned almost 9 months ago. Does anyone have any advice on fighting the charge due to the length of time between returning the car and issuing the invoice, or is this just one of those things that will have to be paid?

In the previous nine months did you take the car back?
I wasn't aware that there was a time limit on when an Invoice could be sent out?
Perhaps they tried to re-lease it for 9months without success and have now decided to dispose of the asset and send you a bill.
If they had sent you this invoice after 2 weeks would you be complaining that they didn't try very hard to lease it out again and be wanting advice on how to fight the charge?
You signed a contract, you broke a contract, you have to pay the penalty as it clearly couldn't be leased out again.0 -

What exactly does the contract you signed say in reference to early termination? All the answers you need will lie within.0 -

The national fleet co tried for 4 weeks, as agreed, then invoiced my former employer, who paid it (fleet car). My former employer is now sending the bill on 8 months after.

Yes, i probably would be. I did break the contract through my job being lost in a reorganisation, which meant i had to return the car as they did not allow me to take it on as a personal lease, but as a single mother im struggling since loosing job and its going to be hard to find the money. Its unethical, but if there is a loop hole i dont want to miss it as we are struggling.

I can see where the op is coming from, as time goes on you start to relax and think the issue is resolved.
What sort of company us it?
Surely if they terminated your contract by redundancy they terminated the lease contract and not you.
I would fight them all the way, it's probably bad advice though.0 -
Who signed the lease hire agreement you or your former employer?
I'm thinking the employer if they paid the fee.
What did you sign with your employer regarding your lease car contract and is it legally binding?0
