Dog Microchip Updating Details

Hi, I have two dogs, both microchipped. When we moved house I went to update their details and discovered that while this is free for Petlog, it costs money for Identichip. I know it isn't a fortune, but I still think it is a liberty to charge for this. I considered getting a new free chip instead. Is this legal, does anyone know?

Why should they offer free updates? They are running a business not a charity.

Getting a second chip will be pointless, if your dog goes missing and gets scanned you don't know which chip will be found so they could get the old details and not be able to contact you. Most places that offer microchipping always scan the dog for an existing chip first.

While it is not illegal to have a second chip fitted it is from today illegal to not have a chip with up to date details so you are back to the same problem if the first chip gets scanned.

Most of the companies offer the chance to pay a one off fee to get free updates for the life of the pet.

The basic registration with Petlog does attract a charge for changing address. For no charge you must have paid extra to upgrade to Petlog Premium, which gives you free updates.
