Hi,
If I open a basic bank account that has a debit card and I purely use it for paying for stuff in shops. I don't use it online, on the phone, take cash out or anything else. I fund the account by transferring money from another account.
Is there any way of the account becoming overdrawn?

Yes, if you use the card to make a purchase when there isn't enough money in the account. It will get declined most of the time, but lots of till points (particularly contactless ones) will allow the transactions through resulting in an overdrawn account and accompanying charges from the bank.0
