I have and it is relatively straight forward.

I've used a few companies and all process the orders in similar ways, you order what is on the prescription then send them a copy, this can usually be done by post, email or uploading a photo of it. I've never sent one by post but used both the scanning to email and photo upload methods and both worked well.

It's all quite simple and straight forward. On one site (I don't remember which one) you create a mini profile of your pet/s and on any future orders you just log in, use the drop down box to choose the pet the prescription is for and upload the new prescription and they keep it all on record for a quicker turn around. It even lists how many repeats are linked to the prescription and how many are used and left along with expiry date so you don't have to worry if you lose the original.

I used to do prescriptions online and as Foster dog says it is fairly easy. The hardest thing I found was getting a vet prescription cheap enough to make online buying worth doing. The vet we used to use started charging £20 for a prescription (we changed vet's now) so check how much the prescription will be and factor this cost into online prices to get a true value for money price.
  • Thank you both very much.I will ring my vet to find out how much they charge for a prescription.
  • Just found out my cat will need tablets for life now. Can you tell me how much your vet was charging?
    Thanks

I used to get two dogs' heart meds online and saved a lot, but the free prescription ruling expired and vets started charging again.

As above my vets started small but the price has crept up and they now they charge well over £20 for the first then the price drops slightly for subsequent ones. The charge was only £15, last year.

it's worth checking each site for prices on your particular drug/drugs as they vary a lot and one may have your drug cheaper, whilst being dearer for others.

Also check whether there is free postage either for all or with spends over a certain amount.

I and a number on here have used Animed Direct, as they have free postage, good prices and will accept photos of your prescription via email.

To add: If you have a prescription for three months' supply (the max a vet is supposed to prescribe under Cascade Rules) , you don't have to buy all at once. The supplier keeps your prescription, which is valid for 6 months, open until all used up.
