Another bloomin' Freeview re-tune

So fed up with this...

Freeview needs re-tuning all the time.

If I could afford it, I'd switch to freesat because this has become ridiculous.

Today's re-tune was all because of most local TV channels switching from channel 8 to 7. Seriously????? Couldn't this have waited do be done alongside something more important?

I sometimes set my recorder to do a series, but you can bet I'll never get a set of programmes stored together because there'll be a re-tune somewhere in that time & I'll have to re-programme the recording. Or worse, if you're not there to do the re-tune, the recording sometimes fails altogether.

Come on, Freeview, this is a third-class service and we deserve better.

If you cannot avoid re-tunes, save them all up for twice a year and agree with the main channels' schedulers that no series will span the re-tune so as not to ruin people's recordings.

    I completely agree with you!

Remember the days when we Brits laughed at American TV: "300 channels and nothing to watch!"? Well, British TV is now the same, all those channels on Freeview and very little worth watching. There is even a whole group of channels (UKTV) which specialises in repeats that have been repeated on other channels, which took them from a previous source. That group even advertises an 'On demand' service. It has become ridiculous, all that wasted airtime. When we had just a few channels, the entertainment was mostly watchable. We had some very fine shows which actually made us think. Now there is so much dross it is unbelievable.

Every time I retune, I then have to go through the Channel List and take out the krap, such as all those sex channels, marketing garbage, 3rd-hand game shows starring presenters who are either long dead or too old and feeble to be shown on TV now.

Hedgehog, thanks for allowing me to place this rant!
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

There are now so many channels my mum's TV can't store them all, and deletes unwanted extra channels like, er, BBC1 whenever she retunes.

    Why not go for freesat?

Cost us £180 at the time (a year ago.) But we were paying £40+ for SKY, so it paid for itself in 5 months. It's brilliant. it has 100s of channels, and you can record and pause and rewind and play back tv programmes. It has catch up on demand too.

You do need a satellite dish though. If you have never had SKY, then there are people who will install a dish. (Check the local papers or the internet...)

Failing that, maybe get SKY, and have the smallest cheapest package for a year, and then cancel it, and you get to keep the dish.

We have never had to do anything with freesat. It updates itself. It's brilliant. As for the channels... we get almost everything we used to get with SKY. :)
    You didn't, did you? :rotfl::rotfl:
