Temporary change of address - Car insurance issues?

Due to an 'ingress of water' over the Easter weekend we are currently living out of a hotel and will likely be in temporary housing for the next 3-4 months.
Couple of questions. First, do I need to tell my existing car insurer about this and at what stage do I tell them? We will be moving to rented at some point in the near future (as soon as we can find somewhere) and I don't fancy being hit with policy change fees twice unless it is absolutely the only option.
Second, what do I do about the renewal? Do I get quotes for our home location of for wherever we are residing until the house is fixed? Again concerned about policy change fees - what companies are best for this sort of thing?

Well.......you wouldn't need to report that every time you were staying in a hotel!0 -

That is sort of what I mean, at what point does a situation stop becoming temporary? We are in one hotel at the moment, it is looking like we are going to have to move soon as that hotel is fully booked, do we need to tell the insurer about every hotel, or only once we move to a longer term, rented place?0 -
You only need to tell them the address where the car is at for the majority of the year as I understand it. So if your temporary address is for under six months, I wouldn't think you need to tell them but I stand to be corrected.0
