Smart Meter Issues spike at midnight?
HI,
We had a smart meter fitted a week or so ago.
From midnight to 2am we have a spike in both Gas and electricity that is higher than at any other time of the day (weekend and week day) Its costing exactly £0.81 every time across both energy types.
Given my average usage is no more than £3.00 thats nearly 1/3 of my energy bill per month.
As a result I have become a detective and turned EVERYTHING off I mean everything that is plugged in was unplugged, the boiler (4 years old and serviced)' the house was left in darkness and coldness for a night there was nothing possibly left on.
I made sure to stay up between midnight and 2am see if something magical happened.. it didn't.
I just looked at my smart meter in horror as it was showing Amber light and watching my money burn... I was even using a torch at the time, smart meter on battery power..
Does anyone have any idea what is going?
Thanks
Jon

I don't have a smart meter, so this is nothing more than a guess, but could this be the daily standing charge being applied?0

Yes, the IHD will add the standing charges as a daily amount but not VAT and will not reflect any other discounts.0

In house display...in other words..the monitor. It wont show on the actual smart meter itself .0

You say its in amber for 2 hours, what is the hourly cost displayed?
If you look in the 'tarrif' part of the menu it will tell you what your standing charge is.0
