If it's full of clutter you'll need some binliners and fill them and hide until you have time to go through them thoroughly. Then I'd start with the kitchen. Clear down tops and get washing up cleared off.
I know that the flylady thread is excellent but you need the crisis clean on flyladys website to deal with this. Oh and the tip about setting a timer in 15 mins blitze cleans is the best advice I ever was given, you really can cope with just about any disgusting job for just 15 mins!MAY GROCERY CHALLENGE £0/ £250

I just found this today; the site is generally a bit heavy on the religion for me, but some useful stuff there. HTH
http://myblessedhome.blogspot.com/2006/04/emergency-quick-clean.html#article... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Hi there
If i was you i would focus on the living room, kitchen, loo and hall...bedrooms can wait..unless you know them well enough for them to be in there...in which case they probably wont notice the mess;)
1) Throw open the windows and let that air in
2)if you have any tumble dryer sheets shove one behind any radiators that are on... smells lovely - and not like you have run around like a loony cleaning:rotfl:
3)right grab some binbags...scuttle through the rooms grabbing anything to throw away
4)more bin liners:D , if you have kids - give each one a bag and tell them to put in anything that is theirs..even offer a small reward for who has most items;) -if you have no kids then grab abything just lying around... and shove all the bags in a bedroom
5)straighten up living room, wipe tv etc, run around with vac
6)In the kitchen shove as much as you can into cupbords and even the oven... clear worktops make a place look biger and cleaner
7)wipe worktops, draining board etc....get out any cups etc for later.. dont want them seeing in your cupboards do we:p
8)In the bathroom, shove as many toiletries etc away
9)wipe surfaces and taps etc
10)squirt loo cleaner down (actually do this first..it can be soaking;) )
If you have time wipe down the front door as this will be the first place they see...
I think thats everything :j ..its not a long term solution, but at least it will get you through tommorrow..and then you can sort the rest out when you have time
Good luck...and remember...people come to see you - not your house....well the kind you want to visit again do:D-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
I know this sounds mad but I play a counting game with myself and for example put away 30 things as fast as I can. If you have got loads do 100 and you will be amazed what a difference it makes.Try and do a good deed every day.0

Bset advice - turn off your PC so that you don't stay on MSE instead of doing housework. If all else fails, put everything lying around into binbags, put them in a bedroom and if the guests see them tell them you're into donating to charity in a big way!0

Pay someone. Only joking.
Id just make sure the rooms that there going to in are clean and tidy. Even if you have to fill boxes with clutter to store in an attic/garage/shed etc and worry about them another time, go round every surface with cleaner/polish. then hoover or sweep the floor and mop only if really nessecary. Dont forget winodws, id really cut corners and worry about windows in rooms that i was going to use.
Smell is really important and i dont mean air freshener. Freshly brewed coffe, flowers of even some home made baking (but you probably dont want to think about baking though) smell great. ive been to friend houses that are spotless and ive been to scared to even sit down.March 2014 Grocery challenge £250.000 -
Progress Report - Done kitchen, cleaned sides, cleaned cooker hob, cleaned sink, swept and moped floor.
Half way through bathroom, just leting cleaner, soak in then rinse and buff, sweep and clean floor.
Then just hoover living room and rest of downstairs and upstairs, tidy all toys in wrong place and final touches! phew!0 -
