I have been making token payments towards my balance as I am in dire financial situation, they sent me a letter that they will either pass onto a debt collection agency or court action.

How much do you owe and have you entered into a payment plan and stuck to it?
    Is this your only debt?
If not go and see a debt charity.

Legal action is a last resort.

LTSB no longer exists. It is either Lloyds or TSB now.

Whichever they feel will get their money back. A DCA would be more common.
