sparks in microwave...... scared!

we had to get a new microwave this summer as the (very) old one started sparking on the inside - there's a metal-looking panel on the inside on the side and it had burn marks on it. i'm in a rented house, so we got the landlady to buy a new one - which has now started doing the same thing. could this be coincidence or should i be worried about the electrics in the house? i have had to replace the lightbulb in my room about 4 times since christmas, but i put that down to buying cheap rubbish bulbs! am i being paranoid or does this suggest something is dodgy throughout the house. as with many landlords, ours is apparently allergic to spending money on the house, so if anyone can give any advice before i contact them, that would be great!

re you sure it's not something you are putting inside it? If you have plates with a metal finish on the edge, they will often spark.

CHeck that all your plates and bowls are microwave safe.

after it already going once this year, we've been extra special! it really isn't anything we're putting in there at all (e.g. a bag of microwave popcorn!)

it could also be somthing called arcing which is harmless but scary as it happened to me on one of my brand new microwaves and i swopped it at the shop
