Neighbours security light

Hello forumers,

I moved into a new development about 9 months ago. One of my neighbours who's property backs on to my garden has put in a really bright security light on a sensor. For some reason they've put it in really high so it shines (as we are higher) straight into our kitchen. I plan to raise it with the neighbour to try to suggest lowering it so it's not an issue but I wondered if anyone has any experience on this or advice about whether this is allowed? I am dreading them saying no and then having no way to stop it from flooding our kitchen and bedrooms with light.

  • I'm sure they would be quite happy to lower it.

They probably have no idea it's problematic and will apologetically adjust it. It might even be one which can be angled up or down, they often are, which would make it very easy.

    This ^^^

Why are people these days so afraid of actually chatting nicely to neighbours, and maybe even making some new friends ? Dunno, maybe I'm lucky that I live in a nice area where neighbours look out for each other and help each other and go for drinks together and talk to each other ?

Failing that, a well-aimed air-gun pellet should sort the problem.

As mentioned I was planning on talking to them about it, but even though we are friendly there is always the fear that it could annoy them and make for a bad relationship! Anyway I have spoken to them and good news they are going to try angling it down to see if it helps sort the problem. I'm so glad as it really did shine into our house, fingers crossed it should sort the problem!
  • Good stuff.
Sounds like a good neighbour plus a free benefit of protection to your home.

I had a new neighbour move in to a house that backs onto the developement I live in and he had a security light installed that nearly blinded people as they drove into the communal carpark.

I popped around to his house to explain the problem and we have been good friends ever since (and yes, he did fix the light).
