Rewards for Forces

Has anyone purchased one of these cards? Is it worth it? They are offering a card for £12 at the moment with a cinema ticket deal so I wondered whether it's worth purchasing the card or just using an id card instead.

If it's a reward for forces why do they have to charge £12 for it?

  • Just use the Defence Discount Service card - £5 to cover costs, the only one endorsed by MOD.

Thanks, a lot of other people on another forum have recommended the Defence Discount Card, for anyone else reading this thread serving members, dependants, veterans, reservists and cadets can all apply for one. Seems that it's well worth the £5 for the discount it offers.

With the Defence Discount Card, only partners of serving members can apply, with Reward for Forces, partners of veterans can apply. My husband who was in the RAF has the Defence Discount Card and I've got the Reward for Forces card.. Now we just have to remember to ask if places accept them!

I did at Shoe Zone and they weren't sure but decided to give 10% discount anyway!

Thanks for your replies, got a Defence discount card and used it for Halfords vouchers, Costa in a service station and Subway, so already the discounts we've had have more than covered the cost of the card.

That's a good thing to know. My Dad has just got one as a veteran, and he's saved loads already - even in places where it's not accepted he's been given things like his local Chinese wouldn't take it but added an extra dish to his order instead, and he was given staff discount in one place because they didn't take the card.

We had 20% off a meal in Frankie and Benny's last week, so it's definitely been worth it.
  • I brought the card to get a 1 time discount in PC world for a saving of around £100, not used it since but paid for itself.
  • The rewards For Forces card can be used in the same places as the Defense Discount card and more, the cost is also for a life time, even if you lose it thy replace it free of charge, the Defense card is £5.00 every 3 years. Meaning the Rewards card is cheaper.
