My wife and I currently have our gas and electricity with British gas as well as homecare insurance so we have no problems really but...
My wife received a phone call from Scottish power saying they can almost half our tariff as the operator on the phone said that we will be paying 2.66p per kWh a unit with Scottish Power where British gas we pay 4.65p per kWh.
Is this normal that they just phone out the blue?
It sounds to good to be true...is it?
Any help with this would be great.

The best thing to do is get you bills and work out your yearly usage in KWH.
To do this you need to find two actual/confirmed (not estimated) meter readings which are 1 year apart.
Then go to an comparison site such as energyhelpline.com. Input the information and see what is cheapest for your area.
Scottish Power have competative deals for one of the big six but there are better deals out there.
You can also split the gas and electric and you could make even more savings.
I have been with scottish power (duel fuel) for 2 years without issue but I recently switched to E.on for my electric.
Also, look at some of the cashback links on this site as you can get £35 cashback from sites like energyhelpline just by clicking on certain links.0 -

You need to know what you are paying with BG - SP maybe assuming or stating their standard rate, and if you are on that, you are throwing money away.
I had a call from SP last year and they told me they'd save money - I told them I'd do a check on the comparison sites and see if they were cheaper, and if they rang me back Monday I'd let them know how I got on - they didn't ring back, and they weren't cheaper. Don't trust anyone from an energy company who rings you up or knocks on your door - they may be being truthful, maybe not, but you should just do your own checks and get the best deal you can IMO.0 -
Just weigh the pros and cons for each service. Read feedback about the Scottish power so you will know what you are dealing with.0
