  • Holiday Pay - Almost all workers are legally entitled to 5.6 weeks' paid holiday per year (known as statutory leave entitlement or annual leave). An employer can include bank holidays as part of statutory annual leave.
Sick Pay - You can get £88.45 per week Statutory Sick Pay ( SSP ) if you're too ill to work. It's paid by your employer for up to 28 weeks. You need to qualify for SSP and have been off work sick for 4 or more days in a row (including non-working days). You can't get less than the statutory amount.
Cant comment on the pension issue, I have never joined a pension as I am too low paid to afford my part of it out of my wages.
Now if you do live in Bristol here it the link to the local welfare rights pages (I am going on your name here) https://www.bristol.gov.uk/benefits-financial-help/welfare-rights-and-money-advice-service
Tax Credits - with no dependeant children you have to work 30 hours. 16 hours is if you have a child and are a single parent, 2 parents it is 24 hours between you.
So if you can find a way to get some paid work to take you up to 30 hours you will get the top up.
I would always apply for housing benefit and council tax benefit anyway - you may get some of that. I get housing costs of £29 a week towards my £130 a week (social housing) rent with my 34 hours a week job. I cant get tax credits as I am on UC.
    Hope this helps :)

Your best off trying to claim working tax credits. the threshold is working 16 hours or more per week, which you seem to be doing :)

Not for a single person with no children. They have to work 30 hours.

I'm in the same situation as you and same age, but I do get holiday pay and sick pay with my p/t job, there is no help for those who need it and are single and work part time. I just keep looking for more hours or a full time job, but like you say there is nothing out there once you get past 50.
