Repainting kitchen units - eggshell?

The house I've bought has a painted Neptune kitchen and I can't stand the colour, plus the paint is chipped etc.

Should I paint a new colour of eggshell paint straight on to the existing finish, or do you think I would need to rub down and undercoat? It's pretty clean, it was new in 2013 so not greasy and grimy.

Are the so-called 'kitchen cupboard' paints any use at all?

Rub down and get a decent key. I'd do everything I could to get it perfect.

You don't need a cupboard paint if the cupboards are already painted. In theory, they create a key but I'd much rather choose from a better variety of colour.

Check out paints those that shabby chic furniture use.
I know someone that's done their kitchen recently, think the brand they used was Authentico but there's others out there.

Thanks. I've painted loads of pieces of furniture before but haven't painted anything which already had an eggshell finish so wasn't sure whether I'd need to do all the prep or get away without! Removing the doors and drawers to sand will be a PITA not to mention the carcasses which I'd have to sand in situ, was wondering if I could just go straight to the fun bit!

You can try this stuff called Owatrol ESP (easy surface prep) which give you a surface on which to use any paint on.

We are using it to paint straight onto a gloss kitchen and the tester we did on a separate square of gloss came up really nicely.
