I had an account with Halifax from 2011 to 2012. Because of Cheque Centre loans when I went to Afghanistan this account went overdrawn and then defaulted. Is there any way now after three years I could get a transaction list or statements from that account or would it be closed and all records deleted? Many thanks.

Ask in branch, they should provide it.
Failing that submit a Subject Access Request under the Data Protection Act.SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0 -
That's quite strange I just came across that when I had a search online just as you replied. Thanks very much. In general is this something that has to be done in writing or can it be done electronically via email etc? Thanks.0

Did you close the account? have any record that the account has been closed by Halifax?
If not then the account will still be opened but defaulted and stops put on the account to limit withdrawals/check details etc, so you will be able to get statements back to 2011, from branch or via head office straight to your home (although they may charge £5)
Even closed account have records that can be obtained by contacting the archive team at head office, this is done via a branch and message sent internally, if you have a sort code and account number.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Banking & Borrowing, and Reduce Debt & Boost Income boards. A branch should be able to give such, unless when sent to a outside collection agency it was deleted off branch access and sits in a central location computer.
A SAR generally can be submitted at a branch when showing photo ID and sent to whatever office it needs to go, via mail or post I have been asked to sent copy ID that may need a Justice Of The Peace validation (free in a Scottish court). Sending ID or account numbers etc via mail with my address is a nono from me, for security reasons.
So if you are near a branch go there with photo ID and do a DPA SAR in branch.SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0 -
I didn't think it would have been as straightforward as that not a lot is in this day and age I suppose. Thanks for your help guys0

No problem, hopefully the account is still active and you have access to it over the counter at your local branch.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Banking & Borrowing, and Reduce Debt & Boost Income boards. Remember there is a 42 day wait allowed in law for responding to an SAR request.
I think it's fair to say alternative forms of requesting the information are likely to deliver a more efficient response.0 -
Yeah I'll keep it simple if I can. If I can get it sorted in a branch that would make life a lot easier. Cheers.0

You can get copy statements from Halifax but they may charge you for them.
If you have the account number it will speed things up.
If the account is closed you may have to wait for them to be posted to you.0 -
Yeah I would expect there would be some kind of charge for it find out what's said tomorrow. Thanks for your help.0
