i have a friend that lived with her mother ( sadly since passed away) that received direct payments.
    BUT...

her mother went from receiving 4 x 30 minutes a day ( so 14 hours a week) to only 6 hours of direct payment funded care.
that is why i said to not expect the same level of support that you would receive from SS care.

and as far as the comment 'direct payments changed my life', in some cases they do. for people like me that only have a sensory impairment, but that are otherwise fir and healthy ... the DO change lives.
my funding is not to wash/dress/feed me, it is to enable me to take part in the same world that every non disable;ed person inhabits!

Its only legal if you have a guardianship order supporter by your doctor and a psychiatrist and if the sheriff approves it. And your out of pocket by £300 every 3 years requires renewal.

    Had enough of it.

You are getting two different things confused.

If you are wanting to take over and administer the direct payments of an adult who lacks capacity then you need the guardianship order - regardless of who is being paid to do the care (whether agency or private carer)

If you want to pay a family member for caring from direct payments that is an entirely different issue and I have posted the legal information above which shows this is possible.
