Refund on credit card

Bought some goods on credit card. Cost about £3000.
Paid off my credit card in full at end of month.
I found out the goods were faulty and the company refuse to take it back.

If I go through my Credit card company to reclaim will they refund my card or give me cash back?
I've now balanced transferred onto that card but I don't want that being paid off as I need the cash back!

Anyone know what the process is?

Assuming you get the refund it will probably go to the card.

But with a large credit like that it shouldn't take much to persuade them to reset the balance to zero by forwarding you a cheque.

Most likely, they'll be happy to BACS transfer the money back to your bank account.

I've done it with about £700 I accidentally paid twice or after Direct Debit came out after I made a manual payment.

Quite a short post from OP - me being nosey would want to find out what the goods were? How long OP took to decide goods were faulty? Why if there was any doubt did OP not contact the credit card company to dispute the transaction before paying it off? Was it for personal or business use - you know little questions like that?

    I think you've missed the OP's point.

The OP has done a balance transfer, so probably has a large debit balance on the CC (probably at 0%). So the £3k refund might just reduce the debit balance - rather than creating a big credit balance.

Which means the OP loses the benefit of the 0% deal.

Yup. Guilty of missing the point completely!

    Only partly.
OP is under the impression (from what is written) that the credit card will just refund £3k without questions being asked.

Guilty as charged with the balance transfer bit.

    Thanks for the replies!

The purchase was for an bmw engine which is for a car that is abroad, cost about £3k.
I bought it in Jan, and we found out it was faulty when it was fitted in Feb.
Made numerous phone calls to the dealer telling them it was faulty. I've proved to them via video that it doesn't start, also said that I will send it back at my own cost to them. But they are refusing to take it back or refund it. So I would like to go through the CC to claim the money back.

Made the original purchase via CC to cover myself as I always do for purchases over £100. Paid the card off in full to limit the interest payments. On 1st of April I cleared my CC, then BT a about 4K onto it as they had a deal. If CC refund 3k onto the card, I'd be 3k down as I've already paid it out in cash, so I'd prefer the money back into my current account.

You can but good luck with the claim. You will probably need an independent report into the engine - they could claim the engine was perfect when it left them and that you or your mechanic !!!!!!ed it up - how would you reply to that?
