Balance Transfer Card - Need to know credit limit likely to obtain

Hi all, I've got approx £9k that I have on a zero percent card, in 3 months the rate ends and I want to shift it to a new card. I am currently saving £300 PM into a high interest account that I will eventually use to clear this, but it will take a bit of time and will need one or two card shifts I believe.

I am looking now at a new card option to shift it all over, but I don't seem to be able to find out what credit limit I am likely to get. I don't want to apply to find I only get £2k for example, as I need £9k.

So is there an easy way to find out / specify what I need and know which ones to leave alone and waste applying? Have looked at the MSE tool but I don't see a credit limit option. Or is it just luck?

Thanks...

    Beggars can't be choosers.
There is no way to know the limit in advance, and you don't really need to transfer the debt to one card. Transfer as much as you can and then apply for another card if needed.

It is unusual to get such a high limit on first application unless you have limited outstanding debt. However depending on your income it is possible with someone like MBNA, but having a balance of £9k outstanding may mean that lenders won't give you a high limit. MBNA also have a pre eligibility checker. You best bet might be as Grumbler says to apply for more than one card. Nationwide quote you using a soft search and do indicate the credit limit before a full application but I don't know of any others.

OK thanks guys, I kind of suspected that I didn't have a lot of options to choose a credit limit / see what it may be. But certainly good idea to go for a couple if needed.

My current zero percent ends at the start of July but look ahead now so that I am prepared to shift and pay it off. Will also check out nationwide as well, as I do have an account with them...

MBNA is a pretty good shout, try the MSE checker. I told them how much balance I had to transfer, and they gave me a slightly higher limit than that. IIRC it was something along the lines of 36 months 0% with a 1.39% fee. (I do have it written down somewhere, but it's a hassle to find it.) Can't complain!

See if Nationwide is offering you a card through the online banking offers. You might be pre-approved. The Select is fee free at the moment, although it's only for 12 months.
