The cost of living

My ex partner lives on a remote island and she has a picture on Facebook of the car crammed full of goods on one of her quarterly trips to the mainland. She does a shopping trip every 13 weeks. She's got a range of freezers to store food in and lots of cool boxes to keep the food cool enough for the voyage.
I couldn't live there.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)

Admittedly living rural is more costly, and less convenient. But I've lived in the village we will retire too, and love the walk to the pub, and know that the village shop is well enough stocked for emergency purchases.
We've factored in a "big" fortnightly shopping trip to the big city (Penzance) into our costs calculations.
Obviously when driving becomes problematic, we'll need a rethink.
BUT the major factor for us is living in the wild and beautiful West Penwith peninsula, and enjoying the place and people as long as we are able. Our dogs will love the move from Canberra to Cornwall.“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and who weren't so lazy.”0 -

My neighbour's solution to that when she was told, in her seventies, that she wasn't allowed to drive any more for medical reasons was an electric bicycle. That could solve your getting to the pub issues!
Don't drink too much though...it is a criminal offence to be drunk in charge of a carriage under section 12 of the Licensing Act 1872. A carriage is a bicycle. Although really the only penalty that would apply in reality is a telling off from the police officer. Not unknown for the matter to go to court though. http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/ancient-law-snares-man-caught-864648:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
