Reclaim packaged account or not?

I have had a packaged Gold account with LLoyds since about 2002 when I moved house.
I went into the bank to ask for a bigger overdraft facility and was sold the packaged account on the basis of wanting more overdraft. (face to face sale)

Several years later I rang the bank and asked if my packaged account could be changed to a non fee paying account. I was told yes it was possible, however I would have to have my current account number changed and thus would need to inform all my DD holders, SO etc of the new account number, and I would have to wait two weeks or more for a new account number, bank card and cheque book. I was really afraid that I would miss out on a DD and run up a black mark on my credit file. To this day I haven't changed it for that reason.

Why I'm asking is because today someone said to me that they shouldn't have told me that they would take no responsibility for transferring all my mandates over.

I have probably used the AA benefit once or perhaps twice over the years - although I have had my own AA/RAC membership. I never used any of the other benefits.

Could anyone advise?

  • after almost 13 years banking with LLOYDS IOM OFF SHORE they did EXTENDED DUE DILIGENCE because I could not give them proof of funds I deposited in cash at ATM machine (around 1000 pounds UK currency)..and then safety and security got my accounts frozen with no time scale no mails stone walling me 100%..after that I wouldn’t recommend ANYONE to open off shore account anywhere…its just you are giving away your money to people who can do what ever they want with your money…so after being deemed high risk by my bank after so much time banking with them I now have nothing since they just took it all and keeping it hostage …the thing is that account was even rarely used by me practically dormant for number of years ..even debit card I never used ..no outward transactions to other accounts very few payments in etc…no money traffic ..my on shore accounts work no problem..but off shore NO SIR …..never again ..cant afford to lose another life saving just like that because some trigger happy manager from RISK AND SAFETY department thinks he might found something ”suspicious”

The current account switching process used today was not the same as the one years ago. However, you were told porkies as there is no reason for an account number change.
